Vehicle Customization is a feature in Saints Row, Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV and Saints Row (reboot).

Custom Bezier

A customized Bezier in Saints Row 2

Not all vehicles can be customized. For convenience, the words "all" and "every", and all figures on this page, refer to customizable vehicles only.

Overview[]

Upon entering a Car Mechanic with a damaged vehicle, the option to repair the vehicle is given. If the car is not damaged, the option to customize the vehicle is given. Rust and dirt are removed upon entering the Vehicle Customization menu.

Modifications[]

Saints Row[]

In Saints Row, most vehicles can be customized, with the exception of Large vehicles.

There are set rims, e.g. street, luxury, sport with spinners etc.

Roof options are unavailable while passengers in the backset, and convertibles lose access to the backseats when a roof is added.

Saints Row 2[]

There are 99 vehicles in Saints Row 2 which can be modified through the Car Mechanic.

Most vehicle can be modified at Rim Jobs, but Large vehicles can only be modified at Semi Broken.[1]

Many Unlockable vehicles are variants which can't be customized.

While the options available for each car may vary, the colors menu is available for all vehicles, and every vehicle can be equipped with Nitrous.

Performance[]

Each of these have the options Stock or Upgrade, and each cost $100 at the start of the game and only $7 at once all discounts have been unlocked.

Some cars driving around Stilwater have different Body Mods by default, but none of them ever have Performance Mods equipped.

  • Nitrous[2] - This is used for a short burst of speed, good to use when starting up a car to improve the acceleration. Additionally, it increases collision damage to the point where a hit cripples or immediately destroys a vehicle.
  • Hydraulics - (Available on 46 Vehicles) Can be used to make the vehicle bounce or rock.
  • Speed Upgrade - (Only on Demo Derby cars, equipped by default)
  • Reinforced Bumper - This is used to allow the bumpers to withstand more impact.
  • Reinforced Frame[2] - This is used to allow the whole frame of the car to withstand more impact.
  • Torque[2]
  • Kneecappers - When using this, four spikes come out from the car when it is being driven, which can be used to make pedestrians fall to the ground or to burst the tires of cars. Most vehicles can have kneecappers with the exception of four.
  • Tire Durability[2] - This makes the tires able to withstand more impact, making them less likely to burst.

Wheels[]

There are 5 cars with no Wheels menu, and bikes never have a Wheels menu.

Body Mods[]

There are 5 vehicles with no Body Mods menu, and 11 cars which have the Wheels menu but no other Body Mods.

  • Sometimes, Bumpers is an option, other times, it's Front Bumpers and Rear Bumpers. Bumpers changes both bumpers at the same time.
  • Handlebars is only an option for the Toad, and not for any Bikes.

Glitches[]

Saints Row[]

Saints Row 2[]

Hubcaps[]

There is a glitch at Car Mechanic which allows to have any Hubcaps on any type of wheels.

  1. Go to either Semi Broken or Rim Jobs and start Vehicle Customization.
  2. Choose Standard wheels.
  3. Choose Hubcaps.
  4. Choose wheels to use with Hubcaps.
  5. Choose Standard wheels but instead of choosing wheels, press Cancel.
  6. The vehicle should have other type of wheels with Hubcaps. Purchase wheels.

Spinners[]

Eiswolf with Deep Dish Rims and Spinners

The Eiswolf with Spinners on Deep Dish rims

There is a glitch at car mechanic which allows to have any Spinners on any type of wheels.

  1. Go to either Semi Broken or Rim Jobs and start Vehicle Customization.
  2. Choose either Bling or Daytons wheels (depending on the type of spinners).
  3. Choose Spinners.
  4. Choose wheels to use with Spinners.
  5. Choose either Bling or Dayton wheels, but instead of confirming, press Cancel.
  6. The vehicle should have other type of wheels with Spinners. Purchase wheels.

Spinners on Hubcaps[]

The Hollywood with Spinners on Hubcaps

There is a glitch at car mechanic which allows to have any Spinners to be used on any Hubcaps on any type of wheels.

  1. Go to either Semi Broken or Rim Jobs and start Vehicle Customization.
  2. Choose either Bling or Daytons wheels (depending on the type of spinners).
  3. Choose Spinners.
  4. Choose any Standard wheels.
  5. Choose any Hubcaps.
  6. Choose any type of wheels menu but DO NOT choose specific type of wheels and press Cancel.
  7. The vehicle should have both Spinners and Hubcaps. Purchase wheels.

Saints Row: The Third[]

Duplication[]

When entering Rim Jobs with a damaged vehicle, modifying after repairing causes it to be duplicated in the garage menu.

Customization[]

There is a glitch at Rim Jobs which allows customization of otherwise non-customizable vehicles. All land vehicles can be customized with this glitch except for Yarnie.

  1. Have a customizable vehicle in the Garage in addition to the non-customizable one.
  2. Go to Rim Jobs and retrieve a customizable vehicle.
  3. While inside the Rim Jobs bay, press action to start Vehicle Customization
  4. Select "Garage"
  5. Highlight the non-customizable vehicle to modify
  6. Press back to leave the Garage menu
  7. The customization screen now contains the non-customizable vehicle
  • All vehicles can be reinforced. This includes tire reinforcements on vehicles that do not have tires.
  • Decals, unique artwork and designs of regularly non-customizable vehicles can not always be changed or the color choices may be limited.
  • The interface may become buggy and certain changes automatically apply themselves when viewed. This occurs with the N-Forcer trim paint but can be fixed by the applying colors separately instead of using the "paint all" option and, specially, the police variant of Kenshin when you customize the layout to the optional configuration of the standard variant, giving it the skeletonized structure (you can enhance it and paint it, but you shouldn't change the layout, if you want to preserve the police variant of the Kenshin).
  • Functions of Rim Jobs that are not regularly present in Saints Row: The Third are able to be viewed, for instance, the Crusader is able to receive a Hydraulics modification, despite it having no effect and having no presence in the game otherwise.
  • The Nitrous upgrade can be bought for tanks but doesn't work.
  • Some menus have an odd arrangement, for instance, the menus for recoloring the Challenger list each form of paint as a sub-category.
  • Using a new vehicle off the street to customize a non-customizable one in the garage works for many vehicles, but not all of them.

Saints Row IV[]

Customization[]

The customization glitch is possible in Saints Row IV, using the same method in Saints Row: The Third. Since any vehicle can be immediately added to the Garage, this makes it slightly easier to perform.

For example, the Assert can be given working Hydraulics.

Tanks are not displayed in the Rim Jobs menu in Saints Row IV, so they cannot be customised using the Vehicle Customization glitch.

Trivia[]

Saints Row[]

Saints Row 2[]

  • The Demolition Derby cars have their rusted reinforcements ungraded when entering the car customization menu, but since the Rampage does not have a Trim Color option, the color of those parts cannot be changed.
  • The Toad has the modifications options of a car, and is the only vehicle to include a Handlebars option.
  • The Baron is the only car that can have a Wheel Width of 0.
  • The Zenith's Spoilers are set via the Roofs option.
  • The Varsity's Bed Mods option is in Body Mods instead of Details.
  • The Anchor's logo cannot be changed.
  • The Raycaster is the only vehicle which cannot have Standard Rims.
  • The Kent is the only vehicle with a Body Mods menu, but no Wheels option.
  • The Justice is the only car which can have a Wheel Width of 5.
  • The game files include options not included in the game, such as:
    • Engine, Exhaust and Adjustable Suspension in Performance
    • License Plate, Dash, Door Mods, Bumper Extras and 10 areas of Decals in Details
    • The License Plate is set for some custom vehicles, but is unable to be modified.
  • The least modifiable vehicles (starting with fewest options)
  • The cars with the most Body Mods and Details menus are the Swindle (14), Danville (13), Magma (13), Ethel (13), Alaskan (13), Hollywood (12), Betsy (12), Churchill (12)
  • The cars with the most Body Mods and Details options are the Danville (59), Alaskan (46), Compensator (42), Swindle (42), Magma (41), Venom Classic (39), Ethel (39), Betsy (37)
  • While modifying the car, any recruited Homies wander aimlessly, and this may cause them to be abandoned.
  • Saints colour scheme can be replicated by setting the body color as purple and the trim color as gold.

Saints Row: The Third[]

Saints Row IV[]

  • During "The Fundamentals", the Vehicle Customization prompt does not appear when driving a vehicle into Rim Jobs. If a vehicle is damaged, it is possible to repair it at Rim Jobs, which automatically adds it to the Garage, and then it is possible to enter Rim Jobs on foot, and enter Vehicle Customization from the menu.

Saints Row (reboot)[]

  • Saints Row (reboot) is the first game in the series to allow the customization of Aircraft and watercraft.
  • Saints Row (reboot) is the first game in the series to feature customization for all vehicles in the game.
