Countdown Timer
Edit
Shouldn't there be a countdown timer for the release of Saints Row: The Third...? I have no idea how to do it, but I just thought about it. Can anyone do this? Random Thought 01:06, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds like a nice idea for when we get closer to the release date, but I think it might be a tad early at the moment. —Message posted by Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 01:56, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
- A countdown timer to chaos? :P
- If you can find me an example of a countdown timer on another wikia, I can convert it for use here. -User452 06:39, August 11, 2011 (UTC)
- Would this work? —Message posted by Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 22:46, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I just tested it, and it doesn't appear to work. That example was from 2008, so there may have been changes to wiki since then which stop it from working now. It would be be best to find one already working somewhere. -User452 22:53, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
- Would this work? —Message posted by Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 22:46, August 12, 2011 (UTC)
- How about this in conjunction with this? Or maybe even this? Or THIS? OR THIS!?
- ...Ahem. —Message posted by Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 22:41, August 13, 2011 (UTC)
- I looked at the javascript on mylegonetwork, and used it here and we now have a working countdown timer. Now, any suggestions as to where the timer be placed in a professional manner? -User452 14:46, August 15, 2011 (UTC)
- I've shortened the output and added it to the release date section in the infobox on the Saints Row: The Third article. -User452 06:29, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
- Just saw it. Looks fantastic. :D —Message posted by Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 22:52, August 18, 2011 (UTC)
Q&A
Edit
If the Chat has taught me anything, it's that we need a prominent Q&A section, because that is what the Chat is being used for. For example, someone came in today asking for a map of Racing Locations, like the one we have on the Racing page.
But I don't know how best to implement a Q&A section, any ideas? Failing anything else, the forum seems the most likely solution, since we're not exactly using it. -User452 07:58, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, I never really did anything with this idea.
- The forum is still there, obviously, but instead of using it, people are still coming into the chat, saying the need help or need to ask a question, and when no-one responds, they leave - without saying what they needed help with.
- I still don't have any better ideas. -452 22:08, April 16, 2013 (UTC)
Pictures on the Wiki
Edit
i think we should focus on adding high quality pictures on the Saints Row The Third content (like the ones you take in-game) to the gallery instead of taking pictures of your screen Girisle 18:16, November 26, 2011 (UTC)Girisle
- I think we should focus on adding high quality pictures of all content, any high quality pictures you can add will be welcomed. --user452 18:24, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
- I agree i was just saying since we can take screenshots on the third all pictures should be high quality GirisleGirisle
- There are people who can take screenshots of all of the games, and I agree that it would be great if all pictures were in high quality. Each article should be made the best they can be, by adding high quality pictures. --user452 21:44, November 26, 2011 (UTC)
Vandalism
Edit
I would love to be a nightime watchman if you would say that for vandalism and if any anon users valdalise or even registered users I would gladly be on the lookout in the weekends because tonight I have removed vandalism like never befor to abusive, nasty and ignorant vandals The Ultor Corporation 05:35, February 26, 2012 (UTC)
- To watch for vandalism, you can use: Special:RecentChanges, clicking the "diff", "x changes" and "prev" links will show you what changes were made in that edit. Clicking the "undo" link next to each edit will undo that edit. Clicking "edit" above an old version of the page will restore that version of the page. --user452 06:41, February 26, 2012 (UTC)
Re-arranging
Edit
I'm thinking of moving the News sections to the bottom of the main column, and moving the list of Useful, Random and Community pages to the side column. Opinions? --user452 00:02, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I previewed it and it just doesn't work. If it ain't broke... --user452 00:15, May 1, 2012 (UTC)
- The reason I wanted to move those sections around was to make them more visible. In the same spirit, I've added a short list of 5 useful links to the top of the page. I want to highlight all the things that users can easily contribute to: discussions, stub articles, cleanup requests, reference requests and image requests are all lists of things which need work, which makes it easy for people to contribute. --user452 03:11, May 22, 2012 (UTC)
- I'd forgotten about this, eventually I found a layout that worked to do exactly this. -452 23:10, April 16, 2013 (UTC)
Summary
Edit
I've been visiting many other wikis recently, to see what other type of style customizations others have used, and have noticed that hardly any wiki ever states what the subject of their wiki is. For instance, our main page doesn't say "Saints Row is a series of open-world crime games". I think everyone has just always assumed that any visitors to their wiki will be people coming here because they already know what it is, not because they've randomly found it.
For anyone, like me, who does happen upon wikis for random reasons, it would certainly be beneficial if there was something on the main page to state exactly what, for example, "Aion" is, because I have no idea, and I shouldn't have to dig to find out.
So, I'm thinking we should replace "Welcome to the Saints Row Wiki The most comprehensive Saints Row information archive - built by fans, for fans" with a short description. I'm thinking one line would be best, perhaps a second one highlighting features of the series.
- Saints Row is a series of semi-linear open-world crime games - created by Volition, Inc.
- Saints Row Wiki is the most comprehensive Saints Row information archive - built by fans, for fans.
Any suggestions? -452 18:08, April 23, 2013 (UTC)
- It has occurred to me immediately after posting that while this is regarding an improvement to the page and is precisely what a talk page is for, this would probably be better posted as a blog post. I'll leave this here, but reword and expand it as a blog post later. -452 18:09, April 23, 2013 (UTC)
