What's the point in even mentioning that? And, it's false anyway. BlackStar: Envoy of the middle 18:29, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

source for Volition confirmation[]

A while ago, someone added to this article that Volition had confirmed that Johnny Gat and Lin are not related. Today, someone questioned that fact and asked for "when" and "where".

I'm 99% sure that "where" is the saintsrow.com forums, and I've narrowed down "when" to sometime before 2009-07-19. Unfortunately, Volition recently upgraded the saints row forums, and removed the search, so finding out exactly when is going to be difficult. -452 01:43, March 15, 2011 (UTC)
I still have not found the quote. But I have found that that line was added to this article on 2009-09-02, but Master Sima Yi, so I will ask him if he remembers where it was said. -452 17:46, March 21, 2011 (UTC)

Shogo's coffin[]

The woman that Gat dumps out of the coffin so that he can bury Shogo is not Aisha.

  1. Look at her, it is not the same person. Also, this woman has a head attached. ;)
  2. It would make no sense for him to do that. Why would he desecrate her corpse like that?

I admit that the first time I watched that cutscene, I thought "omg, is he about to dump Aisha's body out?", but it was immediately clear that the woman was not Aisha. I'm sure that Volition deliberately chose to have the woman's face visible so that there was no doubt that it was not Aisha -452 00:17, March 21, 2011 (UTC)

For anyone who still believes that Shogo was buried in Aisha's grave, I have uploaded a map showing the two graves File:Map neighbourhood cemetery.png. Note that the Kritzon mausoleum is visible in the first cutscene, while the Hartman mausoleum is visible in the second cutscene: they are on opposite sides of the cemetery. -452 02:02, April 23, 2011 (UTC)

Last name[]

Does anyone elst think they might've name him Johnny Gat because gat is slang for a gun and Gat is trigger-happy? I mean, it's a possibility. -Sgt. Me 69.66.166.176 20:36, April 20, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I thought when I first heard it. We should avoid putting speculation about naming in articles, but it might be worth adding to the Trivia section that the word "gat" is slang. -452 21:06, April 20, 2011 (UTC)
It most likely holds some kind of reference. Gat derives from Gatling gun, even though its used to refer to pistols. Is "Gat" an asian name? NT92 23:33, April 20, 2011 (UTC)

Chinese-American?[]

Does it actually say anywhere in Saints that Johnny is Chinese-American, or is that just an assumption? 86.4.178.19 14:31, June 3, 2011 (UTC)

I think that "I'm yellow enough as it is..." Comment from the first game is enough of an assumption ASCOTTYJ 04:17, August 15, 2011 (UTC)

Johnny Gat[]

Hi im trying to put that Johnny was seen alive in the Pimps and Gimps trailer but it keeps getting deleted and i'[m messaged to stop putting false categories on by Olivia88 but he was clearly there please may i have permission to put this back on Thanks :) (Mandy2009 17:23, November 10, 2011 (UTC))

The information on him being in the Pimps and Gimps trailer is already in the article, in the Trivia section, just reworded. I don't know what you mean regarding false categories though. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 17:52, November 10, 2011 (UTC)

Johnny Gat is Dead, Not Optional[]

There is no option where Johnny Gat lives, no matter what option you choose. In the Gangstas in Space movie, that isn't actually Gat, but actually an actor playing Gat. This is proven after the mission during Jane Valderama's regular after-mission news segment. (unsigned: 68.226.124.10601:40, November 18, 2011)

Prima is not canon, and regularly contains incorrect facts. --452 03:23, January 26, 2012 (UTC)

Reaper[]

Does Johnny drive a Reaper before he is a Zombie? If he only drives it as a Zombie, it should not be listed on this page, and should only be listed on the Zombie Gat page. --452 02:47, November 21, 2011 (UTC)

Correct, I've removed it. He barely does anything before he is a zombie. :'( – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 02:49, November 23, 2011 (UTC)

Professor Genki is Johnny Gat?[]

Does anyone besides me think that Johhny is dead? We never see the body. Could he have escaped?

Is Professor Genki Johnny Gat? (unsigned: Gekkou25 03:12, November 21, 2011)

I think that the presence of Zombie Gat hints, no strongly suggests, no: makes it perfectly clear that he is dead. --452 21:40, November 21, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you'd even begin to think that Professor Genki is Gat. Nevertheless, despite his ambiguous, rubbish, off-screen death, it's confirmed several times throughout the storyline, and after the credits you unlock Zombie Gat, which pretty much confirms it. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 02:45, November 23, 2011 (UTC)
One reason I thought Gat was Genki because his reality tv show which is hard to say the whole. Since killinn is Gat's specialty. (unsigned: Gekkou25 02:46, November 24, 2011)

No, sorry, spoilers are allowed on this wiki. Please read our Manual of Style - specifically the section spoilers. Furthermore, when making edits, please leave edits summaries, as continuously removing large chunks of text for seemingly no reason may be considered vandalism. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 18:54, December 20, 2011 (UTC)
Let me get this clear - you came to a wiki, about the game, read an article about a subject, and are now complaining that the article on the wiki contains information about that subject, and you want the information about that subject to be removed from the article about that subject on the wiki?
Why are you reading an article about Johnny Gat if you do not want spoilers?
Why are you reading a wiki about the game if you do not want spoilers?
Pick up a paper bound encyclopedia, and open the article on the Titanic, but watch out, it contains spoilers.
Avoiding spoilers is simple: don't read things you don't want to know everything about. If you do not want to know things, do not read an article about that subject.
This wiki should contain all information about everything in the Saints Row series, and this is an article about Johnny Gat, which contains information about Johnny Gat. If we removed the "spoiler" information, where would we put the information? Do you think that this wiki should not be a completely source of information? Do you think we should just remove valid information?
Every mission article contains details about that mission, including what happens after the mission, and any rewards - should we erase that information too? Our cheat page has the cheats AND the effect those cheats have when you enter them - are they spoilers? Same goes with the Unlockables and Achievements, and our maps of various locations. Does our Tagging article offend you because it spoils the locations of the Tags for you?
It is not like we have a heading "Johnny Gat dies". Events are listed in sections by game, and it is entirely possible for someone to read about Gat in SR1 without reading plot details from SR3. --452 21:23, December 20, 2011 (UTC)

If you don't want spoilers on a subject, don't read about it; everything is organised so that information and spoilers are kept in their relevant game sections, including trivia. We're not going to remove information until an arbitrary date. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 14:59, December 21, 2011 (UTC)

If you do not want to read information about a subject, then it is up to you to "postpone" reading the article until you are ready to read it. It is not the responsibility of the volunteers on this wiki to censor information that you read, because you are unable to prevent yourself from reading it.

I'd say that in the first one, he was late teens-early 20's. In the second one, he's mid-late 20's. As of now, he's probably late 20's-early 30's. MegaLink08 11:22, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

Gat's Vehicle-SR2[]

It has been determined that Gat when called as a homie arrives on a Kenshin on the Xbox platform and in a Stiletto on the PC platform. Could someone please state what he arrives in on the PS3 so that all possibilities can be accounted for? ----Isolationistmagi 05:40, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

Interesting that it's also a Kenshin on PS3. Looks like I need to get a 100% save file for SR2 on PC and actually call him to verify that what the game files say is actually correct. I'll do this sometime next week, my PC is in various parts right now. --452 01:29, January 15, 2012 (UTC)
Confirmed on PC as Stiletto. --452 18:54, April 23, 2012 (UTC)

I did a quick test on calling Johnny at 98% completion for each area in the city, and every time he came in a Stiletto, so I'm going to assume now that his appearance in a Kenshin was some form of bug, as I've been unable to recreate the results. --Isolationistmagi 23:47, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the update. We'll remove it from the article for now, until we have more info. -452 23:56, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

Death proof.[]

I've now played through the first 2 missions on a slow computer, and the only "proof" of Johnny's death is Loren's word.
Apart from Zombie Gat, is there any later confirmation that he is dead? --452 22:36, April 21, 2012 (UTC)

His whole death is handled so awkwardly, but yeah, that's pretty much all you're told. There's a few cutscenes where Shaundi moans about it, and it's said they go to/return from (?) his funeral at the beginning of "Return to Steelport", and that's pretty much it as far as I can remember. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 21:05, April 22, 2012 (UTC)
Oh right, funeral.
I think the whole thing is just poorly written. While playing the mission, I kept asking: why am i jumping out of the plane again?. The skydiving section was pretty awesome, but Family Guy episodes have more coherent opening scenes, and those are deliberate nonsense.
Anyway, Playa had no reason to leave Gat on the plane, Playa wouldn't have left Gat on the plane, and Playa wouldn't have accepted some frog's word that Gat was dead.
I'm trying not to be over analytical with what is supposed to be an over-the-top game, but a game shouldn't leave the player saying "Wait, why am i doing this?". I never asked that while playing Septic Avenger! --452 02:09, April 23, 2012 (UTC)
Couldn't agree with you more! – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 10:48, April 25, 2012 (UTC)
A user just left an interesting forum:Johnny Gat rumours#comm-19700 comment: "Genkibowl DLC It says that Gat is rumoured to be alive and also The body was not at his funeral"
It's not in the strings file, so if it is true, it must have been random dialogue. I was wondering about "how was the body at the funeral if Loren had it?", but I think Volition are probably just trying to feed to conspiracy theorists. --452 21:34, May 10, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I uploaded this a while ago; it's from the opening cutscene of the DLC. Mentioned here. :) Not so sure about the body though. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 13:14, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
Haha, thanks. Since I know you're not vandalising, I rarely look at your edits. :P
With just that quote, do you think it might be referring to Johnny Tag? --452 17:08, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
It's possible, as most of the messages in the news ticker make reference to events in later DLC, such as Andy Zhen in Gangstas in Space and Jimmy Torbitson in The Trouble With Clones, but this one regarding Monica Hughes isn't expanded on as far as I know, so maybe it's foreshadowing Saints Row 4 (or Enter the Dominatrix, even). As you said, I think it's just Volition baiting the community. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 17:31, May 11, 2012 (UTC)
Too me it sounds like your in denial of Gats death (rightfully so) but your going the wrong way about it by blaming bad writing, your sounding like ME3 fans, they blamed everything on bad writing when it couldn't have been further from the truth. Gats death was intentionally left sudden, violent and in a sense, ambiguous. They want us to have wild theories about it, because they KNOW we love the guy, seriously he is the only reason I started playing the first game. TheRealTerminal 12:02, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
I've not got around to playing Mass Effect 3 yet, and I don't want to have the ending spoiled for me so I've not read too much on it, so I can't say much on the comparison, but I truly felt it was handled poorly. The ending of the game came out of nowhere, and when I personally saw "Zombie Gat" unlocked, my reaction was pretty much, "Oh, so he is dead then? :/"
I wouldn't have had so much of a problem with his death had it been done right. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 19:34, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
I couldn't care less about Gat's death, or wild theories. I'm interested in verifiable facts (as well as a coherent and engaging narrative). I asked "is there any other proof he is dead?" so it could be clarified in the article, not because I doubted he was dead. --452 21:44, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
The funny thing is, originally I was going to add "I'm not trying to fuel any conspiracy theories, but..." to the start of my comment, apparently I shouldn't have removed it! --452 21:51, April 27, 2012 (UTC)
Its Saints Row man, they can pull a Lucas on us and make Gat the antagonist of "The 4th"
Frankly that would be fucking awesome if done right, if saints can do a zombie virus and cloning, then its perfectly plausable that Gat could be brought back to life (as a human) in the 4th, it would make things crazy, maybe make him amnesiac or brainwashed, or mask him for most of the game, but I can garuntee that the world will hate it. TheRealTerminal 23:35, April 29, 2012 (UTC)
Re: I was wondering about "how was the body at the funeral if Loren had it?"

The cutscene on the bridge in Stilwater, while the Saints are there for Gat's funeral occurs immediately after killing Philippe Loren in the Syndicate tower. If Loren had Johnny's body, then it stands to reason that the Saints retrieved it after killing him, and that's why they're having funeral at this time.

Re: The funeral cutscene.

There is nothing at all said about the body being missing. In fact, the Saints are driving a Reaper. What possible reason is there for them to be driving a hearse if Johnny's body isn't in the back?

Re: Witness testimony
  • "Story10_In_06_Viola":"Johnny's dead because he thought he could do everything on his own."

Viola was there was Johnny died, and as Philippe's right hand, would have known if Johnny was alive. At this point in the game, Viola is defecting the to Saints, and if he was alive, she would have told them in order to gain their trust.

Re: "You can see his body next to the desk in the cutscene at the end of the mission"

Bullshit. That corpse has a long blonde ponytail is wearing a hat. The jacket does not match Johnny's, and is too short - leaving the corpses midriff exposed. These facts indicate that that corpse is female, although no matching NPC wearing those clothing is seen during either the first cutscene or the mission. I don't know who that corpse is supposed to be, but it sure as hell isn't Gat.

Re: "Johnny landed or crashed the plane and lived happily ever after"

Bullshit.

  • Loren is shown in the plane at the end of the cutscene, and obviously survives.
  • Loren's exact same plane is intact later in the game.

There is absolutely nothing in the game to support that Johnny is alive. His death occurred off screen, as did Aisha's. Aisha was not seen as she was killed, and is not seen after. Her body was also not present in her funeral cutscene.
If anyone has any other evidence supporting the theory that Johnny is alive, I would love to hear it. --452 01:39, July 26, 2012 (UTC) (updated 01:44, July 26, 2012 (UTC))

Was GAT in a romantic relationship with Shundi? it appears that after gat's presumed death after the first mission of the game, Shundi became very distraught about his demise and goes to being aggressive towards pierece after throwing a party right after Gat's death is confirmed. I'd like to remind everyone that just because something is patched or retconned doesn't mean it never happened. Check each mission and related cutscene and add details about Johnny Gat to the article, with references, and cross them out one-by-one
Interesting quotes should be added to the Quotes section using the {{Quote}} template.

In addition to the usual missions, this list also contains vehicle and weapon articles that mention Johnny - whatever those articles say about Gat should also be mentioned in Gat's article. -452 17:00, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Johnny's Glasses[]

I found a discussion on tumblr stating that Volition confirmed in a twitch that Johnny's glasses were prescription. I tried looking for the stream, but couldn't find anything, so I asked the people who saw it what I should be looking for. I was told it was a stream on HtSSC, which is absent from Volition's twitch. I'm guessing they must've deleted it as there's no videos from 2014 on the account. There's just one video from 2013, then the rest of them are all from this year.

With that said, can this still be added to his page without a source? Grable (talk) 22:12, August 31, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, but still add cite the stream as a reference without a link. I have most the HtSSC stream saved, so I'll watch it soon and find exactly what they said. Unfortunately, I lost 1 part of it, so I hope it wasn't during that half hour. -452 23:11, August 31, 2015 (UTC) (correction made 10:27, September 1, 2015 (UTC))
Okay, I've added the info under "Trivia" with a blank reference. I'm new to editing the wiki, so I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if I've done it right (or tell me how to fix it if I've screwed up).
Not sure if this helps, but this is what they told me about the video:
All I can remember is they kept taking gameplay in turns - one team would play for a bit and then tag out when a new team came along (and I remember the pointless detail of their webcam being set up on an angle from their right rather than directly in front of them). You didn't add a blank reference ({{ref}}), you added [[template:ref?|{{fact}}}}, this wiki's version of "citation needed". -452 10:26, September 1, 2015 (UTC)
Ah, okay, my mistake. I believe I've fixed it this time. Grable (talk) 13:16, September 2, 2015 (UTC)
Please look at the published page. -452 13:20, September 2, 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I've looked over the page again, and I think I've got it this time. Grable (talk) 17:43, September 2, 2015 (UTC)
While adding content to the reference has stopped it being detected as a "broken reference", "Video: []" is not really a reference.
You've already included the appropriate reference in the wrong place:
  • During a stream on How the Saints Saved Christmas, it was confirmed that Johnny's glasses are prescription.
Should be:
  • Johnny's glasses are prescription.{{ref|'''Video''': Volition plays ''Saints Row IV: How the Saints Save Christmas''}}

Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't clear on that point, but thank you for correcting my mistake. Grable (talk) 18:16, September 2, 2015 (UTC)

Johnny Cat[]

Why Johnny Cat doesn't have his own Site :D

Gat's Gat out of Hell choice[]

Johnny's choice is to be referenced in the same way as all other choices, neutrally. Saints Row IV continues from the "Save Shaundi" ending to Saints Row: The Third, this does not make the Save Shaundi ending the "correct" choice, merely the one that connects with the next game. There is no "true" choice as far as Saints Row: The Third is concerned, just as there is no "true" choice as far as Gat out of Hell. When and if there is a Saints Row 5 which references events chronologically after Gat out of Hell, we will state that it continues from whichever ending. What is referenced in propaganda for a difference franchise is irrelevant to this wiki. -452 21:40, July 30, 2016 (UTC)

Bloodstained shirt[]

In addition to the trivia I just added, he may also have the same chance of wearing the bloodstained shirt during missions, but only IF the mission script doesn't specify the variant. So, let's see... I just searched all the CTS files, and there are several that do NOT specify the variant: Saint's Seven, Room Service and Pyramid Scheme do not specify Gat's variant, which means the default variant chances are used, which means there's a 0.99% chance he will wear the bloodstained shirt during those missions. 452 23:35, October 9, 2019 (UTC)

These same chances may apply to some cutscenes, but I haven't looked into that, and I am not planning to. 452 23:37, October 9, 2019 (UTC)
Confirmed, 50ish mission restarts later. File:Johnny Gat with bloodstained shirt during Saint's Seven.png 452 17:07, October 10, 2019 (UTC)
