"Pedestrians" or "Civilians"[]

"The game text refers to "people" as both Pedestrians and Civilians at different times. "Here is the full list of times they are referenced in the game:

Civilians
  1. "MP_LB_KILLS_CIVILIANS": "Civilians Killed"
  2. "STAT_CIVILIANS_KILLED": "Number of civilians killed"
  3. "MSN_RN11_PROMPT_MASSACRE": "The Ronin are massacaring civilians"
  4. "ACT_VANDAL_STATIC_BONUS_CIVILIAN_MSG": "Civilian Bonus"
  5. "ACT_FUZZ_CRIME_FRAUD": "Stop the civilians committing insurance fraud"
  6. "ACT_FUZZ_CRIME_FRAUD_PRELIM": "A group of civilians are committing insurance fraud"
  7. "ACT_FUZZ_CRIME_ROID_PRELIM": "A group of civilians are purchasing steroids"
  8. "DIVERSION_AMBULANCE_NEXT_CIVILIAN": "Move onto the next victim!" (note the variable name.)
Pedestrians
  1. "HELP_TEXT_SEPTIC": "... Press the {ATTACK_PRIMARY_IMG} to fire the sewage cannon at pedestrians, buildings, and vehicles."
  2. "ACT_TORCH_RACE_INSTRUCTIONS2": "Gain points by burning pedestrians and vehicles."
  3. "ACT_FUZZ_PUBLIC_INDECENCY_PERP_TYPE_TEXT": "Stop the lewd pedestrians"
  4. "ACT_FRAUD_BONUS_WITNESS": "Pedestrian Witness Bonus"
  5. "PED_WAR": "Pedestrian War" (Cheat)
  6. "DRUNK_PEDS": "Drunk Pedestrians" (Cheat)
  7. "RAINING_PEDS": "Raining Pedestrians" (Cheat)
As you can see, every time the word "Civilian" is used in the game, it means "people not in a gang" and "Pedestrian" is almost always used to mean "People walking around, whether in a gang or not"
For instance, in mayhem (ACT_VANDAL) there is a separate bonus for killing gang members - so they use the word "Civilian", while in Insurance Fraud (ACT_FRAUD) the bonus is the same if they are in a gang or normal people - so they use the word "Pedestrian"
Question: Do the "Pedestrians" related cheats effect gang members or everyone "walking"? I assume they effect all "people walking" equally, and that's why they used that word.
While there is definitely to use both names name, I think we should continue to use "Civilians" anywhere where we mean "people not in a gang", and only use "Pedestrians" when we mean "anyone who is walking around"
For instance: "Running over pedestrians", and "In Hostage, you kidnap Civilians"

Sweet, thanks for clarifying... you and your game files. I'll continue the "Civilian Raid" of articles.

No problem :) Previously, I was just looking through every menu screen to check info like this, but It's much easier now I've realised I have the entire help menu in a file!
I have something for you: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PLJ76M0T All the NPC actions are in these files, in case you want to list any on this page. and see Forum:SR2 Character List for a list of all possible NPCs. You can use this list to check for any civilians you've forgotten to this on this page.
Enjoy! -452 00:48, March 7, 2011 (UTC)

Unused Badge[]

File:SR2 Badge Nuclear1.png appears to be unused. It may be random, and I got incredibly unlucky and didn't randomly get it in any of my screenshots. I'll have to re-extract the SR2 images and find where it comes from. Oh, no need. "Stilwater Nuclear badge 1" is unused by any NPC. "Stilwater Nuclear badge 2" is used by both the Nuclear NPCs, and the "plant" variants of the Repair NPCs. It's highly likely one that one of those two was supposed to have the other badge. 452 17:38, December 5, 2019 (UTC)

Counts[]

I'm not sure how to do the counts.

There were previously 2 mistakes: SR1 had the SR2 count, and the SR4 gallery was missing some characters.

The raw count (211, 422, 80, 111) is based on the number of images in the gallery. The problem with that is that only characters who are not show elsewhere are there. For instance, UPS drivers and Bums are in their relevant articles.

BUT, UPS drivers and Bums are listed, and counted, in the type list. So, saying "211 civilians, split into 43 types" is incorrect, because Bums are one of the 43 types, but are not included in the 211 civilians.

Clearly, Bums are a Civilian type. The alternative is obviously to tally all the members of all types.

According to my upload folders, this would be 252, 524, and oh, I didn't split the SR3+SR4 folders by "main/gangs/characters" like I did with the rest.

I'm just going to remove the counts for now. 452 22:18, December 29, 2019 (UTC)
