[edit] Stilwater
- Stilwater is a fictional American city and the setting of the video game series Saints Row.
- It is loosely based on various Midwestern U.S. cities, including Kansas City, MO, Chicago, IL, and Detroit, MI.
- (It could also be based on San Francisco , CA due to the fact the alcatraz style prison and the multiple bridges and the river and the airport .)
[edit] Geography and Districts
Stilwater is located on the end of a peninsula, which is split down the middle by a large, unnamed river crossed by multiple bridges. The city features a prominent skyline that closely resembles Chicago Detroit and Kansas City.
The downtown area is in the northeast and central north, and is mainly a skyscraper jungle; museums, office towers, and high-end apartments and shopping dominate the landscape here. The northwest is entirely high-class suburban sprawl, with most business concentrated along the river bank in the south.
On the south bank of the river, the city is much more closely-built, and distinctly less high-class; most of the city's activities and shopping can be found here, along with landmarks such as the Ultor Dome, Wardill Airport, the Black Bottom refinery, and Saint's Row.
There are fifteen principal districts in Stilwater: Airport, Apartments, Arena District, Barrio District, Chinatown, Docks & Warehouses District and Downtown District, Factories District, High End Retail District, Museum District, Projects District, Red Light District, Saints Row, Suburbs District and Truck Yard District. Some of these districts, mostly on the south side, contain only one neighborhood: for example, Chinatown is made up entirely of Chinatown, Sommerset takes up the entirety of the Apartments District, and the entire Truck Yard District is made up of Copperton.
[edit] Businesses
See main article: Stilwater Businesses
Stores, such as movie theaters, music stores and clothiers, are spread throughout the city. Other stores include firearms dealers, liquor and drugs stores, plastic surgeries, barbers, salons, fast food outlets, jewelers, and tattoo parlors (all of which can be robbed or broken into for money or other objects).
As an inside joke, in the Trailer Park district, there is also a small business called Crazy Eddy's End of the Road, which is a place where you can buy coffins for cheap. The trailer is completely surrounded by coffins.
[edit] Transportation
Stilwater is home to an elevated train system known as the "Stilwater Transit". The transit primarily runs along a city orbiting loop line visiting eight stations along the route. These stations are Saints Row, Downtown, Museum, Business District, Suburbs, Arena, Barrio and Docks. The three stations in the affluent City Core (Downtown, Museum and Business District) run along an additional core loop. The Line is elevated above street level for the most part, except for a short sub-surface section with the tunnel mouths in Shivington located in the Projects and Southern Cross in Barrio, whilst tunneling underneath Chinatown and Copperton. This subsurface section can be used as an alternative to the traditional loop route.
Stilwater operates a Bus service called "Cheetah". The major Cheetah Coach Depot is situated in Prawn Court, Red Light District.
There are also three taxi services. These are Eagleline Yellow, Big Willy's Cab, and TNA Taxi.
[edit] Expansion in Saints Row 2
In Saints Row 2, Stilwater is 45% larger and has experienced 25-30 years worth of transformation in just five years. This is said to be, in part, due to efforts by the Ultor Corporation to "fix its problems", and partly due to a massive earthquake that happened at some point in the past five years. Stilwater is now revealed to be an island city, rather than the end of a peninsula, and has had its landscape radically changed. This depiction of Stilwater has a Trailer park, a prison (much like Alcatraz), a Marina District, a University, a graveyard and a Nuke Plant.
