Automatic Rifle is a weapon in Saints Row IV and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell.
- The working-man's assault rifle.
- — Weapon Description[12]
Overview[]
There are 3 costumes for the Automatic Rifle: Shokolov AR, Mercenary LMG and EM Railgun
Accuracy, Clip Size, Damage, Reload Speed can all be upgraded 5 levels each, with a separate Tough Guy "ultimate upgrade" which reduces the amount of damage taken by the player while the weapon is equipped.
The Automatic Rifle is a rapid fire rifle that is easy to use and is an effective general purpose weapon. It has great range and when upgraded, does reasonable damage, boasts relatively high accuracy for it's rate of fire, and a fairly large magazine. While there are other weapons that are optimized against multiple targets and lacks specialty, the Automatic Rifle can still lay down suppressive fire and is good in any situation. The Automatic Rifle can use lots of ammo quickly however, so picking up or buying ammo may become a necessity if relied on too much.
The Tough Guy upgrades provides Playa with damage resistance, which improves Playa's survival rate during dangerous situations at high Notoriety levels and against Wardens.
The Automatic Rifle descends from the K-8 Krukov, as both weapon has the same Fully-Automatic fire type and high fire rates, as well as boasting low damage per shot in the rifle class. Unlike the K-8 Krukov however, the Automatic Rifle has only half the magazine capacity of its predecessor when both weapons are fully upgraded. The Automatic Rifle however, has better accuracy and can be used at longer ranges more effectively as a result.

Trivia[]
- The Shokolov AR is based on multiple variants of the AR-15/M4A1 Carbine.
- The Shokolov AR is visually similar to the AR-55, as both weapons are based on the AR-15/M4A1 Carbine weapon platform.
- Like the AR-55, the dust cover opens and closes after each case has been extracted, while firing the M4/AR-15 in real life does open the duct cover when fired, it does not close automatically after each round fired and needs to be closed manually.
- The Mercenary LMG resembles the M249/MK46.
- Shokolov AR bears a heavy resemblance to the AR-40 Xtnd, and shares a similar firing sound, albeit much faster.
- The EM Railgun is a reference to a gun of the same name from Eraser. The default skin quote is also a reference to the film.
- The Mercenary LMG is used by terrorists instead of the Shokolov AR during Zero Saints Thirty, and is the only time a non-default weapon Costume is used by NPCs during gameplay.
