SR disambig icon This article is about the STAG tank. For the tank favored by SNG, see Challenger.

The Crusader is a vehicle in Saints Row: The Third[3] and Saints Row IV. In Saints Row: Gat out of Hell its renamed to Leviathan.

Overview[]

The Crusader is just as tough as the Challenger tank favored by SNG, only faster and more destructive.

As opposed to the conventional weapons of the Challenger, the Crusader has an energy-based armament; it eschews the 120mm cannon of the Challenger in favor of a more-destructive Plasma Cannon[Reference needed] that has a larger blast radius, it replaces the 50.cal machine gun with the coaxial Repeating Laser[Reference needed] used by the N-Forcer, and replaces the roof-mounted 50.cal with the same Laser Beam used by the F-69 VTOL. These weapons enable the Crusader to deal considerably more damage than the Challenger.

The combination of improved speed and vastly improved firepower makes the Crusader an intimidating beast, since its laser beam does not accumulate heat and can be fired indefinitely, allowing it to tear apart enemy vehicles and helicopters with pinpoint precision in seconds. It is however similarly vulnerable to Annihilators and GL G20s.

Because the Laser Beam is Crusader's third weapon, it can only be used by a passenger.[4]

Saints Row: The Third[]

Crusaders replace Challengers in Notoriety for the whole duration of STAG's occupation.

STAG Crusaders are also featured in several missions, such as Gang Bang, STAG Party, My Name is Cyrus Temple, A Remote Chance and Air Steelport.

Saints Row IV[]

The Average Crusader is present only in the mission "Kinzie's Adventures". It can be driven during the mission, but cannot be saved to the garage.

The Saints Crusader is used by Playa in the Enter the Dominatrix DLC during the first mission "Save the Planet", but cannot be saved to the garage.

Variants[]

Average[]

This is the standard white version.

This variant is used by STAG when at level 5 Notoriety. It is unlocked at the garage after completing Air Steelport.

It cannot be customized normally, but the Vehicle Customization glitch allows Performance upgrades, as well as changing decals. The Hydraulics option is present, but enabling it does nothing. The Window Tint option re-colors the front panel only.

Cyrus[]

This is an unused variant with the color-scheme the same as the reward variant, but with the same stats and customization options as the Average variant.

It cannot be customized normally, but the Vehicle Customization glitch allows Performance upgrades, as well as changing decals. The Hydraulics option is present, but enabling it does nothing. The Window Tint option re-colors the front panel only.

Reward[]

There is also a separate unique prototype Crusader referred to as STAG Tank V2 which has a black-painted hull.[5]

This particular variant appears to do 50% more weapon damage, but is otherwise identical in performance to other Crusaders. It has a black, orange and white paint job.

Other than the color, the only visual difference between normal Crusader and prototype Crusader is an additional antenna near a cannon hatch.

It cannot be customized normally, but the Vehicle Customization glitch allows Performance upgrades, as well as changing decals. The Hydraulics option is not present. The Window Tint option re-colors the front panel as well as the top window near the hatch.

The internal name of this version is "sp_tank03_Reward", which has only one variant, named "average". This version is not included in the Saints Row IV data files.

Saints[]

There is also a separate Saints Crusader which is included in the Special Ops Vehicle Pack DLC, and Saints Row IV. After purchasing the Special Ops Vehicle Pack, the Saints Crusader is automatically added to the Garage.

It is purple and has Saints logos, and is identical to the normal STAG Crusader in performance.[6]

The tank's main cannon is triangular in shape, rather than the cylindrical design of the regular Crusader.

It cannot be customized normally, but the Vehicle Customization glitch allows Performance upgrades. Decals cannot be changed, and the Hydraulics option is not present. The Window Tint option re-colors the front panel as well as the top window near the hatch.

There is only one variant of this version, named "average".

Trivia[]

  • There is no Cheat for this vehicle in any game.
  • The tank was first revealed in IGN's preview, where they showcased the Crusader in Wave 1 of Survival.[3]
  • The name "Crusader" might be a homage to the World War Two-era British Crusader tank.
  • The tank resembles the Israeli Merkava MBT, in contrast to the Challenger which resembles an M-1 Abrams tank.
  • Buying every level of Reinforced Bumper and Frame for Crusader V2 using the Vehicle Customization glitch makes it almost indestructible. Only after around 30 minutes of constant fire from enemy VTOLs and Crusaders, it starts to give out mere white smoke.
  • Unlike the SNG counterpart, there is a visible orange window, just in the middle of the hull and under the tank's cannon. This window colour can be used using the Vehicle Customization glitch.
  • A Crusader spawns almost out of view in the Downtown hard instance of Tank Mayhem, including before STAG arrive in Steelport.[7]
  • As with all of the contents of the Special Ops Vehicle Pack, the Saints Crusader is stored on the game disk in the released version of the game and can be accessed through modding on the PC.[8]
