Description
Edit
Combat Tricks are not required for 100% Completion, but some have achievements and Other unlockables associated with them.
All of these "Tricks" use the Star Rating System, and each have a counter with the diversions menu, as well as a sub-page with Statistics showing the number of times each Trick has been performed and the amount of Respect earned.
The AR-50 XMAC Special is unlocked in your weapons cache for performing "All Combat Tricks", specifically, you need only one star in each, plus 3 Gold Stars in Gang Kills.
Gang Kills
Edit
- Stars for the Gang Kills trick are earned by killing enemy gang members. Additional stars are earned by killing gang members in quick succession. It is easiest to perform this trick with a high Gang Notoriety such as during later missions, or during the Drive-by diversion.
- Earning 3 Gold Stars in Gang Kills will unlock the Avenger Jacket in your wardrobe.
- The number of Gang Kills is also shown in the main Statistics Menu.
- Destroying a vehicle with gang members inside may not always earn a Gang Kill.
Beat Down Kills
Edit
- Stars for the Beat Down Kills trick are earned by killing enemy Gang members with melee weapons, or with your fists.
- There are no achievements or unlockables associated with this trick.
- The number of Beat Down Kills is also shown in the main Statistics Menu.
Headshots
Edit
- Stars for the Headshots trick are earned by killing enemies or civilians with a single shot to head. This can be performed with any gun, but is perhaps easiest with a sniper rifle.
- There are no achievements or unlockables associated with this trick.
- The Statistics sub-page for Headshots does not show the number of Headshots performed, only the total Respect earned.
Gang Vehicles Kills
Edit
- Stars for the Gang Vehicle Kills trick are earned by destroying enemy Gang cars.
- There are no achievements or unlockables associated with this trick.
- Gang vehicles must be destroyed without The Protagonist entering the vehicle.

Edit
- Stars for the Multi Kills trick are earned by killing enemy gang members in quick succession. When killing multiple gang members with the same explosive or rocket, it will only count as one star.
- There are no achievements or unlockables associated with this trick.
Nutshots
Edit
- Stars for the Nutshots trick are earned by shooting enemies in the groin. Male and Female characters act in the same way, and both can be counted.
- It is possible to cause the person you are shooting to perform the "nutshot" animation without earning a star, but you must earn a star for it to be counted.
- The Aww Nuts! achievement is earned by getting a total of 50 nutshots throughout the game.
One Hit Kills
Edit
- Stars for the One Hit Kills trick are earned by killing enemies with a single shot, as with Multi Kills, each enemy must be killed with a separate shot to count.
- There are no achievements or unlockables associated with this trick.

Edit
- Stars for the Slice 'N Dice Kills trick are earned by killing enemy gang members with a Samurai Sword.

Taunting
Edit
- Taunting is a basic Combat ability, which can earn stars when you taunt enemies.
- The Trash Talker achievement is listed as for "Taunting 50 gang members", results vary about increasing the counter.
- With both of these methods, it is possible to taunt multiple gang members at the same time.
- Enemy gang members
- Enemy gang members must not be hostile, which means you must have less than level 1 notoriety, which means no gang symbol, but a full coloured bar is fine.
- Generally, any time a star is obtained for Taunting, the counter goes up. Your results may vary.
- Taunting a gang member will make them hostile and instantly give you level 1 notoriety.
- The level 1 notoriety will drop to a full bar of notoriety after less than 30 seconds, and it is possible to taunt the same person again
- Saint gang members
- It is possible to Taunt 3rd Street Saints
- You must first taunt your own gang members until they stop being friendly, the green X will be replaced by the normal target.
- After this, every taunt will increase the counter.
- Friendly gang members responding the your taunts while still having the green X do not count.
Throwing
Edit
- Throwing is a basic Combat ability which can earn stars according to the distance traveled by the throwee.
- The Going The Distance achievement is earned by getting 3 Gold Stars in throwing. This is listed within the game as "Throwing someone over 100 feet".
- The Statistics sub-page for Throwing does not show the number of throws performed, but instead shows the longest distance you have thrown someone, as well as the total Respect earned by Throwing.
