Description
Edit
The Bear is an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) used by law enforcement and is sometimes erroneously referred to as a tank. It is used by SWAT, Ultor and Steelport National Guard who use it to pursue The Protagonist in addition to setting up road blocks. They generally appear at four-star Notoriety level.
It has only two doors (one in the left side and other in the rear) but allows 6 passengers. In both games it is equipped with a siren, red/blue lights and a mounted machine gun.
Performance
Edit
The Bear's handling is not the best, but it is fast in addition to being strong enough to take multiple direct missile hits. Apart from the destructive force, enough for smashing through cars with ease, the Bear features a Mounted .50 Cal machine gun. In Co-op, the second player takes control of the gun. The Bear is most useful for;
- Activities/Diversions like Snatch, Drug Trafficking, Drive-by, Gang Operation, Hitman/Assassination and Survival Challenges.
- Acquiring weapons that are not yet available at Friendly Fire by killing and looting opponents at a high Notoriety level.
- Acquiring other vehicles like the Challenger Tank or the FBI that only spawn at a high Notoriety level.
Variants
Edit
Saints Row 2
Edit
- SWAT - navy blue with white SWAT decals
- The SWAT Bear appears in roadblocks, when the player has four- or five-star notoriety level. It also can be seen outside the bank in the mission Bank Error in Your Favor.
- Ultor - black with orange Ultor decals
- The Ultor Bear is unlocked in player's garage after finishing Pyramid Scheme mission. This variant also appears in roadblocks when having four- or five-star notoriety level. The player must be in Ultor territory (Saint's Row, Nuclear Power Plant) in order to make Ultor variant appear.
- Generic - random colour
- The generic Bear can sometimes be found during Fuzz as a target that player must stop, but it is not required to be destroyed, so it is possible to keep it.
Saints Row: The Third
Edit
- Deckers - gray with light red neon blue trim
- Deckers' Bear appears in Guardian Angel mission done for Kinzie Kensington.
- Morningstar - black with red trim
- Morningstar Bear appears in Guardian Angel mission done for Pierce. It also makes an appearance in "The Ho Boat" mission but is unable to obtain.
- Steelport National Guard - light brown with black SNG decals
- SNG Bear appears in roadblocks when player has five-star notoriety level. Also this variant comes after the player in Sierra Point when they have at least three-star notoriety level.
- SWAT - navy blue with white SWAT decals
- SWAT Bear appears in roadblocks when the player has four-star notoriety
- Generic - either dark brown or black with white trim with no decals
- Generic Bear comes after the player when they have at least four-star notoriety level.
Obtaining
Edit
It may be challenging to acquire a Bear very early in the game when the The Protagonist is still weak, but it is definitely worth it.
Saints Row 2
Edit
- Steal a Bulldozer. They are common in the Docks & Warehouses District.
- Reinforce the Bulldozer at Semi Broken.
- The Bears will appear slightly sooner in Ultor controlled territory. Drive the Bulldozer to the Saint's Row District and start to mangle the police cars. Pushing them into walls to make them explode is great for raising Notoriety. Soon enough, Bears will appear at roadblocks.
- Once inside the Bear, there should be no problem getting to the Garage without any extra stops.
Saints Row: The Third
Edit
- Buy the Rusty's Needle shop in the Espina District.
- Steal a Titan. They are common in Port Pryor.
- Drive the Titan into the Sierra Point military base and drive the circle road around the base, hitting as many soldiers as possible, until a Bulldog with a mounted gun arrives.
- Steal the Bulldog and start raising Notoriety with the mounted gun while continuing driving the circle road. It may be necessary to steal a new Bulldog.
- When a Bear apperas, steal it and drive to Rusty's Needle to remove Notoriety.

Trivia
Edit
- A Cheat Code for this vehicle in Saints Row 2 is #1048.
- There is no Cheat Code for this vehicle in Saints Row: The Third.
- The Fuzz activity refers to the Bear as a tank, although it is an APC.
- The Mounted .50 Cal is based on the M2 Browning machine gun.
- In SR:TT the Bear emits an alarm when it is severely damaged.
- In SR:TT when the player is chased after by the Bear and when tries to steal it the APC will continue with shooting at the player. Once they are in it will stop shooting.
- The Bear does not appear to be based on any particular 6x6 APC/AFV. It shares similarities with the M1126 Stryker ICV, which is an 8x4 APC/AFV with a mounted M2 Browing, but without the M151 Protector RWS attachment.
