Occupation[]

Is "Crime Lord" an occupation? -452 20:28, July 10, 2011 (UTC)

Well, if "Drug Dealer" is... then why not? - I1west/78.187.94.202 15:56, July 11, 2011 (UTC)
"Drug Dealer" refers specifically to people who are involved directly in transporting drugs in a mission. There aren't really any mission where you can point at Ben directly being a "Crime Lord". "Leader of the Vice Kings" might be a better way of saying it. -452 22:58, July 11, 2011 (UTC)
I guess, you're right. - I1west 06:56, July 12, 2011 (UTC)

Image of Regicide[]

Does anyone have an image of King's book from the advertisement in the University arena? – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 13:14, October 8, 2011 (UTC)

Nice, thanks. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 14:42, October 8, 2011 (UTC)

Possible appearance in Saints Row IV[]

Saints Row tweeted this earlier. I know we don't post speculation, but this isn't entirely baseless; should we mention that Volition have at least alluded to the appearance of King in Saints Row IV? – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 16:52, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Although they haven't specifically named him, I think the word "Royal" and the scarf make it better than speculation. As does the FB version of post where they link to our Benjamin King article. :P -452 16:58, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
Excellent! I saw a few people speculating that it might be Legal Lee, and what with MCD being dead, I had a little doubt.
Also, do you have a link to that post? I don't use Facebook and can't seem to find Saints Row on there. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 17:08, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
Me either, I hate the damn thing: found it.
I expect he'll only appear in the white house portion of the game. Since it sounds like they got him back in TT for the commerical, maybe he also recorded some additional lines they can use. -452 17:16, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
Wait, what - he was in the third game? *Checks commercials* – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 19:34, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
Benjamin King#Regicide. ;) -452 19:40, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
However, he's not listed in the credits. The Third isn't listed on his IMDB or wikipedia page. Also, it occurs to me that he could have recorded voice lines for IV after TT was released, but before he died (Sept 2012). -452 19:47, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
Is that him? He sounds a little different. In any case, it never occurred to me that he may have recorded his lines before he died. Let's hope that over a poor voice impersonator! – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 19:53, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
I'm no MCD expert, but to my untrained ear it sounds like it's him deliberately hamming it up. Or maybe it's someone doing a pretty good impersonation, in which case they can just use that guy to do the voice in IV. -452 20:00, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Well, we have our answer: Terry Crews. He's not listed in the credits for SRTT. I've only seen a couple of his movies, and only really remember him in Idiocracy, so I'm definitely no expert on his voice either, but it's possible it's also him on the radio. The remaining question is whether they told him "Do an impression of MDC", or let him do his own thing. Since they just let the new Shaundi voice do her own thing without much resemblance to Eliza Dushku's performance, I expect we'll probably see "Terry Crews as Benjamin King", rather than a "Terry Crews as Michael Clarke Duncan as Benjamin King". But since King should be 10-15-20 years older, depending on the timeline, it's reasonable that he would sound different, especially since he's retired from being a gang leader.
Although, google tells me that apparently ABC News can't tell the difference between the two actors, so maybe we won't either. -452 01:09, June 11, 2013 (UTC)

Gameplay[]

This isn't necessarily a "problem", but one thing that is still missing from this article is gameplay related information, such as which missions he appears in as a Homie, and which weapons he uses. The fact that he drives a Mag is only included in the infobox, and could also be written into the article.
The problem is fitting it in, because the article is basically written from an in-universe point of view, and sticking a game-mechanic point of view line in there may be jarring.
The mission appearances are obviously present in the biography, and have references to the missions, but it's not immediately apparent without reading through the whole thing, and would be convenient if the information was more easily accessible in a single line.
I'm not sure where best to put that information, I'm not sure it's trivial enough for the trivia section section. The Shaundi article mentions her unlock, vehicle and weapon in the biography section, as do most, so it would make sense to do the same here. Since Shaundi appears in many missions, and is an unlockable homie, that information isn't as required, but for King, it would be handy to be able to quickly see which missions he is in.
Another solution would be to add a "Homie appearances" section in the infobox, but that would just make the infobox bloated, and wouldn't be much better than the old bulleted "mission appearances" section, so I don't think that's the best way to go.
Another solution would be to ensure that the Homies page is updated. King is listed there, without missions. This is probably the better solution, but a line will still needs to be added somewhere to say "King drives a Mag and appears as a Homie in several missions". I think it may work in the description section, what he drives should be part of his description. -452 15:13, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

I'm all for putting a Gameplay section in there (in-between the History and Regicide sections) and noting everything gameplay-related there. I never specifically set out to write an article entirely in-universe (I actually generally dislike this in wikis to an extent, as I feel it insults the reader's intelligence that it is a game/film/book/whatever), and I do think the Biography/History section should stay as it is; it's already fairly lengthy and I think gameplay information may get lost in it.
We could also put the information in the Description section, as at the moment that's basically only a summarized History section, but at the same time I'm kinda happy with the current length of the Description section. – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 15:39, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I like the description section how it is too (which is why I didn't want to just mess it up myself).
Even though I used the "gameplay" heading here, I didn't actually think of having a "Gameplay" section, but that makes perfect sense, since it matches the mission articles. Would you like to do that, or should I? -452 16:27, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Excellent. I'm slowly working on the Donnie article right now, so I'll leave you to do it. :D – Moozipan Cheese(talk page) 17:22, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, didn't mean to remove the gameplay section - I had a few different tabs open and didn't realise that one was an older one. Good thing you noticed. -452 22:10, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

Gender[]

Bens the man :) (unsigned: 90.244.211.91 21:33, 8 June 2013)

Yes, Ben is male, as noted in the infobox. -452 22:10, June 8, 2013 (UTC)
