Nyte Blayde^[1] is a comic book^[2] and TV serial in Saints Row: The Third.

Nyte Blayde is a popular comic book series and television show based on vampires and Nyte Blayde, a vampire hunter-turned-vampire. The show's title character, Nyte Blayde, is portrayed by Josh Birk. Advertisements for the show can be heard throughout the game on radio, and after completing the mission "Convoy Decoy", STAG decide to use Josh's popularity as Nyte Blayde in an effort to raise support for their occupation of Steelport.^[3]

If the player chooses to hand Josh over to Shaundi instead of Cyrus Temple at the end of "STAG Party", Josh is unlocked as two homies, the first version simply being him, and the other in his Nyte Blayde attire.

Two downloadable content packs, Nyte Blayde Pack and the Bloodsucker Pack, include vehicles and costumes based on Nyte Blayde.

In Saints Row IV, the Nyte Blade franchise trademark is given to Matt Miller after completion of his Loyalty mission, "Nytefall".

Franklyn Nyte / Nyte Blayde^[4]

Originally "a man with a purpose", the eponymous hero Nyte Blayde joins the Cyprian Order as a vampire hunter after his wife, Sylvia, is killed by the vampire Mr. X.^[5] Nyte Blayde chases after him, the adventures of which form the bulk of Season 1. Sometime after Sylvia's death, Nyte Blayde begins a relationship with The Bloody Canoness, another member of the Cyprian Order. With his two blades, Nocturne and The Sun Ra, Nyte Blayde brings "righteous fury to the damned" for The Cardinal, the leader of the Cyprian Order. After being turned into a vampire, the Cyprian Order turns against Nyte Blayde, as does The Bloody Canoness, and he flees.^[6]

After these events, he falls in love for a woman named Marion; although she wants a relationship, Nyte Blayde tells himself he doesn't, claiming, "after losing Sylvia, I can never love again".^[7] The Cyprian Order, however, are still after Nyte Blayde, and in an effort to get to him, The Bloody Canoness kills Marion.^[8]^[9]

Nyte Blayde eventually confronts The Cardinal, demanding to know why the Cyprian Order are trying to kill him; The Cardinal states that while Nyte Blayde is not like the other vampires, he believes Nyte Blayde's hunger will rise and he will eventually become "no different than Mr. X".^[10]

Nyte Blayde soon learns that his best friend, Stu, is Mr. X.^[11] Nyte Blayde manages to kill Mr. X, and in the final episode of Season 1, an enemy known only as The Darkness reveals itself to Nyte Blayde and The Bloody Canoness.^[9]

The Nyte Blayde Mobile, a vehicle belonging to the Nyte Blayde Pack DLC, is named after him.

Stu: Stu is Nyte Blayde's sidekick and is described as his "closest confidant".^[11] Early adverts for Season 1 of Nyte Blayde have Stu discourage Nyte Blayde from going after the latter's nemesis, Mr. X,^[5]^[8]^[12] and he eventually suggests Nyte Blayde should go after the Cyprian Order instead.^[12] In the penultimate advert, Nyte Blayde discovers his best friend is actually his "mortal enemy", Mr. X, and vows to "save the fuckin' day".^[11]

Sylvia: Franklyn Nyte's wife and first love, Sylvia is killed by the vampire Mr. X.^[5] In an effort to find Mr. X and exact revenge, Franklyn joins the Cyprian Order, a group of vampire hunters, and adopts the moniker "Nyte Blayde".^[6]

Mr. X: Nyte Blayde's mortal enemy,^[11] Mr. X is the vampire^[10] who killed his wife, Sylvia. Mr. X is an elusive character, and Nyte Blayde spends most of the episodes of Season 1 trying to find him. Among his many crimes, he is known to have destroyed 31 orphanages.^[13] Despite mounting pressure from the Cyprian Order, who are chasing Nyte Blayde because he is a vampire himself, Nyte Blayde discovers Mr. X's secret identity - his best friend Stu^[11] - and manages to kill him.^[9]

Journey Kinkaid / The Bloody Canoness^[14]: The Bloody Canoness is Nyte Blayde's second love, who "filled the void Sylvia left in Nyte Blayde's heart".^[6] Although they were in a relationship, after Nyte Blayde is turned into a vampire, The Bloody Canoness follows along with the rest of the Cyprian Order in hunting him down. She kills his third love, Marion,^[8]^[9] and confronts him several times throughout Season 1. In the final episode of Season 1, she tries to kill Marion again, who has seemingly come back to life. Together with Nyte Blayde, The Bloody Canoness discovers it is actually The Darkness.^[9]

Viola DeWynter dresses up as The Bloody Canoness during the events of the mission, "Nyte Blayde's Return". Her attire is also available to those who bought the Nyte Blayde Pack DLC. The Bloody Cannoness vehicle, also a part of the DLC, is named after her.

Alex Von Tess / The Cardinal^[15]: As the leader of the Cyprian Order, a group who hunts down vampires, The Cardinal welcomes Nyte Blayde, and gives him the two katanas Nocturne and The Sun Ra. Although The Bloody Canoness seeks a relationship with Nyte Blayde, Nyte Blayde states that The Cardinal would forbid it. After Nyte Blayde is turned into a vampire, The Cardinal orders the rest of the Cyprian Order to kill him,^[16]^[6] leading to Marion's death at the hands of The Bloody Canoness.^[8]^[9]

During dialogue in the mission "http://deckers.die", Matt Miller makes note of a Season 3 episode of Nyte Blayde, named "Rise of the Cyprian Order", revealing The Cardinal remains a prominent character beyond the events of Season 1.^[17]

Playa dresses as The Cardinal during the events of the mission, "Nyte Blayde's Return", and his outfit is unlocked at the end of the mission.

Marion: Marion is Nyte Blayde's third love, following Sylvia and The Bloody Canoness. After his wife Sylvia's death, Nyte Blayde joined the Cyprian Order to become a vampire hunter so he could find the vampire Mr. X, his wife's killer. There, he fell in love with The Bloody Canoness, but she sided with the Cyprian Order when Nyte Blayde became a vampire, and he fled and eventually met Marion.^[6] Nyte Blayde cannot admit to himself that he loves her, however,^[16] and Marion is soon killed by The Bloody Canoness.^[8] The Darkness takes on Marion's form when it confronts Nyte Blayde and The Bloody Canoness in the final episode of Season 1.^[9]

The Darkness: The Darkness appears in the final episode of Season 1 of Nyte Blayde, and takes on the appearance of Nyte Blayde's deceased third love, Marion. Upon seeing her true identity, Nyte Blayde exclaims, "The Darkness", implying they are acquainted in some way.^[9]

Trivia[]

Josh Birk speaks about the sale of the Season 1 DVD.^[18]
- The radio ads state "The Season 1 marathon continues this fall". The term "marathon" usually refers to a back-to-back repeat of an entire season in the same day, or over consecutive days, so it is nonsensical to for a marathon to continue in fall.
Nyte Blayde is seemingly a mixture of vampire fictions, combining the vampire hunter theme of Blade and Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the romance of Twilight.
On one of the recruitment posters there is a Third Street Saint.
The comics are published by "Volition Comics", one of many references to the game's developer.
At the end of each advert, Nyte Blayde is heard screaming.
Advert 3 is a funny jab at the film "Batman Forever" in which Nicole Kidman's character uses the bat signal to summon Batman for a private meeting.
Near the Airplane Hangar in the Wesley Cutter Intl neighborhood, there is a sign promoting the Gangstas in Space film, which reads "From the Director of Nyte Blade".
A character named Mr. X appears in the mission "The Case of Mr. X", but this character is unrelated to Nyte Blayde and is instead presented as an antagonist by having all of Playa's worst qualities multiplied.
Matt Miller is an obsessive fan of Nyte Blayde, as shown by him building part of his Usenet after an episode of Nyte Blayde.^[17] and naming the Deckers' sword, the Nocturne, after that of Nyte Blayde's.
- When propositioned for Romance in Saints Row IV, Miller replies with, "Can you call me Nyte Blayde?"
The Cardinal's face is not shown in the poster.
Mr. X. is featured under X in The ABCs of Saints Row.^[19]
In Saints Row (reboot), a poster for Nyte Blade can be seen at the Santo 8 Max Cinema in the East Flats.
