City Takeover is a Diversion in Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV.
- For the mission, see Takeover the City.
Description
In Saints Row and Saints Row 2, neighborhood ownership is rewarded upon completion of Missions and Strongholds, which means that by the end of the game, all available neighborhoods are controlled by the Saints.
In Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV, taking over neighborhoods is an optional diversion, completed outside of missions, and not required for 100% completion.
Each neighborhood is split into territories which are taken over by various methods.
Saints Row: The Third
Territory takeover methods include:
- Completing Activities
- Purchasing Cribs (Rondini's Boat Dock and Airplane Hangar)
- Purchasing Property
- Purchasing Stores
- Clearing Gang Operations
There are two "City Takeover" unlockables. One is an Upgrade, and one is option at the end of STAG Party, which can also be obtained in the Unlockable Pack. Template:BrBoth allow for automatically taking over an entire neighborhood. Using them completes activities which are not yet available, and unlocks any rewards associated with them, including Homies.
Availability
- Most parts of City Takeover can be completed at the beginning of the game, with the exception of Activities which are not available until they are unlocked after Return to Steelport.
- Two Gang Operations in Henry Steel Mills are part of the mission Takeover the City and do not appear outside of that mission.
- City Takeover can be fully completed after Return to Steelport.
Rewards
There is a Trophy/Achievement for taking over each of the 4 districts in Steelport, plus 1 for taking over the entire city of Steelport.
Trophy/Achievement | Requirement |
---|---|
Hanging with Mr. Pierce | Takeover the Downtown district |
Mourning Stars | Takeover the New Colvin district |
Hack the Planet | Takeover the Stanfield district |
You're the Best | Takeover the Carver Island district |

- High Times (unlocked after taking over New Colvin)
- There is No Try (unlocked after taking over Carver Island)

- Saving the game after the phone call finishes.
- In the Cellphone as the current mission, while the phone call is playing.
- On the fail screen after either exiting or dying during the phone call.
- After exiting the mission, the name appears in the Cellphone, but cannot be replayed until saving and reloading the game.
Saints Row IV
Territory takeover methods have been changed:
- Completing Activities remains the same.
- Purchasing Cribs has been removed.
- Purchasing Property has been removed.
- Purchasing Stores has been replaced by Store Hacking.
There is a new category of "Targets":
- Gang Operations have been renamed Flashpoints, and are marked on the map rather than discovered.
- Virus Injection
- Virus Collection
- Security Deletion
- Hotspots
- Towers
Unlike Saints Row: The Third, there are no City Takeover unlockables to auto-complete neighborhoods.
Availability
Most City Takeover gameplay is not available until after The Real World.
