    Shortening DLC titles

    August 19, 2014 by 452

In March, I posted a poll "Shortening DLC titles", with two options:

    • Use official titles only, no matter how long they are. (37 votes)
    • Shorten "Saints Row 2: Corporate Warfare" to "Corporate Warfare" (And all similar titles) (2 votes)

Not a single person gave a reason for their vote. One person left a comment "Looks more proffesional." without stating which looks more professional.

Despite 37 voting for long titles, not a single person renamed "How the Saints Save Christmas" to "Saints Row IV: How the Saints Save Christmas", and every single person linking to it linked to "How the Saints Save Christmas" instead of "Saints Row IV: How the Saints Save Christmas"

This tells me that, in practice, people either prefer shorter titles, or don't care.

    DLC appearances

    July 28, 2014 by 452

With things which only appear in DLC, such as Angry Tiger, it's fairly obvious that the intro line should state they appear in the DLC, not that they appear in the game.

However, what about characters who appear in both the core game and the DLC?

Just about every Saint in Saints Row IV also appears in the DLC missions, so it seems a little redundant to me to state that "Asha is a character in Saints Row IV and How the Saints Save Christmas."

Category:Characters in Saints Row IV DLC and Category:Characters in Saints Row: The Third DLC both only list characters who only appear in those DLC.

While their appearance in DLC definitely warrants a subheading, I'm not sure it needs to be listed in the intro. Especially since that info is also in the infobox …

    Tracking Character cleanup

    July 28, 2014 by 452

It's no secret that the character articles on this wiki are wildly varying in quality. That is to say: there's much that needs to be improved. I don't spend very much time on them myself, other than minor cleanup.

The good news is, since all mission articles have already been cleaned up by User:Moozipan Cheese, half the work has already been done.

There are still many character pages which omit the specific actions of characters during each cutscene. I know that major cleanup of character pages is a daunting task, so let's try to split up the objectives a little.

When we first started cleaning up character articles, the terrible "mission appearances" lists were changes to references or moved to talk pages for reference. They served as a "…

    Obtaining review

    July 26, 2014 by 452

A while ago, the vehicle infobox was updated with more fields related to obtaining each vehicle, but there are many vehicle articles which don't yet use the new fields.

    • Any empty fields should be checked.
    • If there are details in the "other" column that below someone else, then the article should be updated.

(This table is cached for 24 hours.)

    |uses = Template:Infobox_vehicles |namespace = |include = {Infobox vehicles}:%PAGE%:parked:unlockable:gangs:law:missions:homies:cost:areas:obtaining |table = class="wikitable sortable popout fullwidth blockArrows",-,Vehicle,parked,unlockable,gangs,law,missions,homies,cost, common areas, "other" (obtaining) |tablerow = bgcolor=#eeffee¦²{ext¦%%¦text=%%}²,²{bool¦%%¦Yes¦No}² }} |nowords=1}}

    Capacity review

    July 23, 2014 by 452

Some vehicle pages do not list the capacity.

The vehicle infobox contains individual fields for capacity in each game: capacitySR1, capacitySR2, capacitySR3, capacitySR4

These fields are relatively new, so there are older uses of the capacity field using sup tags for each game.

If the value is the same in all games, use the single "capacity" field.

If there is a convertible option, use the maximum value, and note in the modifications section which options restrict passengers.

This table is cached for 24 hours.

    |uses = Template:Infobox_vehicles |namespace = |include = {Infobox vehicles}:%PAGE%:capacity:capacitySR1:capacitySR2:capacitySR3:capacitySR4 |table = class="wikitable sortable",-,Vehicle,capacity,capacitySR1,capacitySR2,capa…

    AKA review

    July 23, 2014 by 452

The AKA field is for alternate in-game names, so all AKAs require references stating the source of the name.

Redirects should be created for all AKAs, and should be linked where appropriate. All valid redirects should also be added to the AKA field.

Many already have these, but some older pages still have not been updated.

This list is cached for 24 hours.

    |uses = Template:Infobox_vehicles |namespace = |include = {Infobox vehicles}:%PAGE%:aka |table = class="wikitable sortable",-,Vehicle,AKA |tablerow = bgcolor=#eeffee¦²{ext¦%%}²,%% }} |nowords=1}}

    Quote cleanup

    July 16, 2014 by 452

There is now a Random quote template, which is currently being used to display a random quote on the main page. I've also recently added large quotation marks around quote templates.

It uses , so is yet another reason for all quotes to use the quote template, and a good reason to clean up existing quotes.

    • Some quotes in articles still use manually added bold and italics to simulate quotes.
    • There are still many articles with quotes in the trivia sections.
    • Before the template was created, the quote template was being used for multiple lines of dialogue, the quote template is for single quotes only, multiple lines from different people should use .
    • Many quotes do not contain sufficient information about the source of the quote, which is fine when it…

    Disambiguating titles

    April 24, 2014 by 452

There are many subjects in the Saints Row series which share the same title, so out of necessity, we have pages on the wiki which have notes in the page title to differentiate between them.

    • For example: Guardian Angel (Mission) and Guardian Angel (Activity)

Since the first words of each is "Guardian Angel" is a ...., the displayed title is a little redundant. The second line on both of those pages is a link to the other.

So, we're doing a trial run of hiding the (Mission) and (Activity) part of the title on these pages, and on all other similar pages.

I'd like some feedback on whether or not you find it confusing.

A similar method of changing the title is also being used on all Disambiguation pages.

    Here's the full list:

    • Angry Tiger (vehicle)
    • Brothe…

    Unique Rims

    April 14, 2014 by 452

While adding the variant details for the Torch, I noticed that there was a photo showing that the Torch has unique Rims which are not available at the mechanic.

I confirmed that those Rims were indeed about to spawn on the Torch, but were not available at the mechanic because they were not part of a "Wheel Group".

So, I have compiled a list of all unique Rims in Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV. (All Hubcaps and Spinners are all available.)

Saints Row: The Third has the most unique Rims which are not available at the Mechanic.

Remember: Rare hunting isn't just about vehicles you're not supposed to be able to get, it's about getting things which you're not supposed to even notice.

    • 49 Rim icons
    • 49 defined Rims.

    The new VisualEditor

    April 12, 2014 by 452

Wikia Staff have been developing a new VisualEditor for several months now, and until recently it has been optional feature which the local admins of each wiki could choose whether to enable.

I approve of the concept in principle, but after testing it, I made the determination that it was not yet mature enough to enable on this wiki. (See below for an explanation.)

Wikia Staff have now soft-enabled the new VisualEditor on all wikis - you can set it in your preferences, or choose it from the edit drop-down menu. As soon as this happened, I made a test edit - it erased a section. I immediately reported this and asked for the feature to be disabled until it was finished, but it is still enabled. They did not tell me "no", they just thanked …

    Variant summary

    April 7, 2014 by 452

This page is supplementary to User_blog:452/Variants.

It takes quite a long time to reformat the information on User_blog:452/Variants, sometimes over an hour for vehicles featured in all 4 games. I've looked at reformatting it automatically, but there are a lot of nuances and edge cases within the details, so it wouldn't necessarily save time, and doing that may even introduce inaccuracies.

So, this list is a simple list of variant names, and spawn chances for easy copy/pasting.

    • Eventually, all the information on User_blog:452/Variants will be added, but this the new "step 1" towards getting all variant information into articles.
    • All of this information is already on the "Vehicles in..." articles

I've split this into letter groups, to make it …

    Sentinel Jake

As most people know, games contain glitches and bugs that can thoroughly affect the game. Some of them can Ruin a game so there's no enjoyability to play the game, but sometimes can make the game more interesting or even fun.

Such examples include the Duplication Glitch in Borderlands 2, Soft and Hard Freezes in Fallout 3, New Vegas and Battlefield 4, and even Saints Row Audio glitch that required multiple patches before it was fixed.

Saints Row IV I can remember many glitches and can even list a few, some bad, some good. Here are some examples.

    1. Replacing a Homie's weapon with a better weapon.
    2. Homie's weapon being holstered on their back, but apparently still holding it
    3. Customising Vehicles that not supposed be customised at Rim Jobs.
    4. Trying to …

    The Bystander effect

    January 3, 2014 by 452

One of the key Wikia tenets is "Jump right in!", however, many people still see themselves as Bystanders.

The "" primarily refers to something that happens when a group of people witness a crime, but they all individually assume that "someone else will do something".

Just because the term originated due to people doing nothing while someone was being murdered doesn't mean that's the only time it applies.

On Wikis, many people just assume that cleaning up articles is "someone else's job". In truth, it's everyone's job.

    • Any time you see someone being murdered, it's your personal responsibility to stop it, or to call someone who can.
    • If you see someone dying, it's your personal responsibility to save their life, or to call someone who can.
    • If you …

    Shivington Fires

    December 29, 2013 by 452

During a discussion in the chat with TheMoonLightman, and we realised that we don't know when the Shivington Fires go out.

After Burning Down the House, there is a cloud of smoke over Shivington, and multiple Blazes and firemen walking around the area. We both remembered that after a while, the smoke and fireman go away, but we're not sure when.

I thought that perhaps it was linked to a certain mission, but TheMoonLightman remembers completing the Sons of Samedi arc with the smoke still present.

An inspection of the game data files has come up empty: There is no second Shivington chunk swap, and the Blaze parking locations are not disabled by a script (unlike the Goliath spawn, which is enabled by a script).

There is already a precedent set b…

    Hi all,

Being a great fan of both GTA and Saints Row series means that I visit both wikis on a regular basis and I intend to use this in order to propose redesigning parts of the Saints Row wiki - mainly the Vehicle list pages. I know both games are different in many ways however that doesn't mean we can't learn a thing or two from them and vice versa.

I propose redesigning the vehicle lists to a format similar to those on the GTA wiki wherein there is a table which groups the vehicles into class rather than a long list which we currently have. This will remove the information which people do not need immediately such as torque or max speed etc. and help organise the list better.

The current alphabetical is good but has too much information o…

    Miracle Max

I'm not sure if this will be useful for anyone or not, but I was putting this together and thought I'd throw it on a blog.

This will hopefully be a list of many major locations in Stilwater from SR1 and what state they are in for SR2. It is still incomplete.

Please note that Volition switched the names around for some Districts and Neighborhoods, and redrew the borders of others, so while something may be in a same spot it may now be considered a different district.

    • Saints Row Loft: Gone. The Saints Row District has been completely redone.
    • Lopez Mansion: Still there, though no longer enterable.
    • King Penthouse: Still there, though no longer enterable and has a new texture which changes some windows and such. In SR1 it had a sign saying Last Centu…

    DLC article improvement

    December 11, 2013 by 452

What is needed for all DLC articles:

    • A screenshot of the unlock screen for each DLC.
    • The price of the DLC, and a link to each store page.
    • The size of the DLC.
    • A list of everything which is unlocked in a DLC.
    • A screenshot of everything which is unlocked in a DLC, if possible.
    • High resolution promo images for each DLC.
    • Any additional screenshots related to the DLC.

People who buy DLC never been very good contributors to this wiki, but hopefully this simple list of obvious things will encourage improvement of DLC articles.

    Fluid layout

    December 5, 2013 by 452

As you may have noticed, Wikia rolled out their fluid layout to all wikis today. Now, more horizontal space is utilised by article content, which is a good thing. Now everything gets to see more of an article without scrolling, everyone benefits: people with huge monitors, people with tablets, or just people who like to resize their browser.

Of course, not everyone is happy about the change, but Wikia have been very working on it very openly for months, and appear to be listening to a lot of feedback. There are bound to be more than a few further improvements, so if you have any ideas, be sure to let them know.

But if you see any problems specific to the Saints Row Wiki, be sure to let me know. I've only been testing the fluid layout with …

    Screenshots of each character

    November 16, 2013 by 452

As you are probably aware, SRTT and SRIV do not have randomly generated NPCs, everyone you see is a preset character, and most of them have names.

    • User_blog:452/SRTT_Character_List
    • User_blog:452/SRIV_Character_List

We need screenshots of each of these characters, for reference.

The easiest way to do this is to modify homies.xtbl and change the character value.

    • SRTT homies.xtbl (Right click > save as "homies.xtbl")
    • SRIV homies.xtbl (Right click > save as "homies.xtbl")
    • The modified homies.xtbl must be put in the same directory as the game exe.
    • It must be named homies.xtbl, not homies.xtbl.txt
    • Once saved, homies.xtbl can be edited in notepad or any other basic text editor.

    Screenshots of the sky

    November 16, 2013 by 452

We need screenshots of the sky after each mission in Saints Row IV.

    • Taken between missions, without doing any City Takeover.
    • Taken from the same place, looking in the exact same direction, with the city visible below the sky.
      • Burns Hill looking south would probably be a good place. The important part is that it's consistent. Picking a memorable tile to stand on, and picking a memorable building or tree to align in the bottom corner would help.

City Takeover changes the streetlights of a territory, as well as the ambient light filter, but the skybox background is mission related.

You can test this at the end of the game, by setting any "time of day" you like, then going to Sierra Point. The ambient lighting will change because it's sti…

    Ghost Cars?!

    November 2, 2013 by NinjaSmoothieRainbows

So I was playing SR3 (as usual) when I saw what seemed to be ghost cars and people on Aparice Island, I have finished the game and the Island is still home to zombies just to keep note, And so I zoom in with my McManus and once I do zoom in they disappear, weird right?

And sometimes a glitch appears when I run in or parachute into the island I get to actually SEE the people and cars driving and walking! Then after the zombies appear and they disappear..

    Anyone else see this bug?

    False information

    November 1, 2013 by 452

The Saints Row Wiki today is nothing like the Saints Row Wiki of 3 years ago, but there are still some lingering misconceptions of unreliability due to open editing.

There are far more people adding factual information than vandals adding false information, therefore false information is likely to be removed promptly.

tl;dr: If you see something you think is false, either fix it or bring it to the attention of others on the wiki.

The Saints Row Wiki is a two-way street: read, edited, and fact-checked by fans - which means you. The information on the wiki is overwhelmingly true, and more detailed than any other source. There are things on the wiki which are not in any official guide, nor anywhere else on the internet - because it's collaborativ…

I wasn't on multiplayer either so I just guessed it was a mascot, even though mascots don't wear ninja suits...So I guessed again it was one of my saints, so I went to see on Gang Customization and I didn't have any ninjas on my gangs....So that's it.

    List of Characters

October 12, 2013 by Jet Set Ronnoc

Feoba Airashi and I wish to create a list of characters in each game, thinking that it will help organize the wiki. What we were planning on is a list for Saints Row, Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, and Saints Row IV. 4 Templates are to be created for each characters status, Alive, Deceased, Unknown, and Undead. Here's an example of a part of the page

    • Julius Little Status: Alive
    • The Protagonist Status: Alive
    • Troy Bradshaw Status: Alive
    • Johnny Gat Status: Alive
    • Dexter Jackson Status: Alive
    • Aisha Status: Alive
    • Lin Status: Undead

This would be the 3rd Street Saints section of the page, and with the templates it would be going from left to right, instead of it being list-like. It would be in alphabetical order, with the exception being The Protag…

If I want to play the game without cheats then I will, but first time around I use cheats and play like there is no death. I use cheats if there is even one, but if there is not then I dont use them. Simple and fun.

    New Wikia rules

    September 20, 2013 by 452

The Wikia Terms of Use have been updated.

You can see the changes by clicking here.

452, Why are you posting about Wikia Terms of Use? What does that have to do with the Saints Row Wiki?

I'm glad you asked! It's news here because several "local rules" are now "global rules".

Previously, all "Community Guidelines" have been local-policies which all wikis were free to alter. And they were just that "guidelines", but now, they're part of the Wikia Terms of Use, which means that violation of the Community Guidelines can get you globally banned from Wikia.

Here are some highlights, which were already against the local policies here, and for which I will now be reporting to Wikia Staff, rather than just blocking locally.

    Image categories

    September 9, 2013 by 452

Categorising images has never been a high priority around here, as can be seen on Special:UncategorizedFiles

A few years ago, a Wikia staff member dropped by with a bot and automatically categorised all existing files into Category:Images and Category:Sound files, but that hasn't happened since.

The only image category I personally care about is Category:Non-article files, which contains images solely for user pages, or for behind the scenes use. Files in this category are excluded from the Template:Random/Image and a few other places.

I realised recently that I can mass-add the "Images" category myself, but there's really no benefit to that, so I haven't done it.

A month or two ago, someone added every single picture of Shaundi, ever, to the…

    Merging Variant pages

    September 7, 2013 by 452

We currently have a bit of an issue about about what we should do about similar vehicle articles.

So far, the rule of thumb on the wiki has always been:

If it has a different name in the garage, it gets a dedicated article.

This might seem pretty obvious, but it's important because some vehicles have multiple names. Such as these Saints Row 2 vehicles:

    • City Waste Truck = Septic Avenger (Hazmat variant)
    • Estrada = Melbourne (Police variant)
    • Corsette = Parrot (Single Wing variant)
    • High Rise = Parrot (Triplane variant)
    • Warrant = DonoVan (Prisoner variant)
    • Mix Master = Longhauler (Mixer variant)

These vehicles are literally the same. When you take them to the Car Mechanic, they have the same options, and they have all the same handling data.

    They are as m…

    Hello Saints Row Wiki members!

It's been a week since the release of Saints Row IV, and hopefully you've had enough time to determine what you think of it. Why is that? Well the idea behind "Wikian Review" is that we gauge what you, the Wikia Saints Row community, really thought of the game. Given that you're all experts on the franchise, it only makes sense that you'd be the most qualified to determine whether or not it succeeded.

Please vote below by leaving a score (1-5) in the comments, or feel free to leave more detailed summary of your thoughts. It should make an interesting companion piece to the critical reviews of the game, which we collected here.

What score would you give Saints Row IV(1-5)? Let us know below!

    Title Style Guide

    August 26, 2013 by 452

As some may have noticed, the titles for most things in Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV are in uppercase. This includes weapons, vehicles, clothing and mission titles. Almost everything. In many cases it's not a big deal, as the proper capitalisation is obvious: First letter uppercase.

However, mission titles often contain words that should be lowercase, especially when you look at the mission titles in Saints Row and Saints Row 2.

The follow words have appeared in lowercase in mission/cutscene titles:

    • all - lower once. never upper.
    • an - lower once. never upper.
    • and - lower 10 times. never upper.
    • my - lower once. never upper.
    • of - lower 10 times. never upper.
    • the - lower 30 times. never upper.
    • with - lower once. never upper.
    • a - lower 7 times. u…

Right so this is my first ever blog post, not just on this wiki but on the internet as a whole so forgive me if I make any rookie mistakes.

I own SRIV on the PS3 and it is a brilliant game that I'm really enjoying but a problem came to my attention lately and it has been bugging me ever since. In the Inauguration station I noticed there was some really cool looking Boba Fett style armour known as the "Ransom Collector" suit and a Han Solo style outfit known as the "Puckish Rogue". So when I got SRIV I went on over to "Let's Pretend" to buy the Ransom Collector suit. It wasn't there though, only the Jetpack was. I then figured it was unlockable. After looking around on the web I found out the suit should be available from the very start. Th…

    SRIV Mission strings

    Do good things, people.

There is no excuse for getting a title or subtitle wrong. :)

    Internal Displayed
COL_TXT_ADV_01_SC_01 Our story begins in the remote village of Zinshire, a hamlet just west of Zinport, in the country of Zinland, on a planet known only as Zin. By nature, the Zin people are an uncultured and slow-witted lot, easily entertained by such diversions as arm wrestling and counting the spots on one?s back. The people of Zinshire most especially fit this description so I?m sure you can already foresee the struggles I endured in life.
COL_TXT_ADV_01_SC_02 The first of those struggles were my parents. My father, a simple butcher, was a small man with a fierce temper. Of all the things I learned…

    Gat shot first

    August 18, 2013 by 452

The phrase "" refers to a changed scene in the 1997 re-release of '

Originally, shot and killed a bounty hunter, notably firing the first shot. In the 1997 re-release, the scene was changed so that Greedo, the bounty hunter, shot first and missed. (Incidentally, Han's gun is what the Renegade is based on.)

This kind of change is called a "" or "retroactive continuity", which basically means that the writer changed what already happened. In video games, this can happen in two ways: patches to actually "change" the content, or sequels re-telling what happened in a different way, in order to better serve the plot of the sequel. Many video game series completely ignore continuity, while reusing characters, names, places and themes to tell a di…

    Spoilers and references

    August 18, 2013 by 452

Again: Spoilers are fine, but must be properly referenced, and located in the appropriate section of relevant articles.

The events of missions should first be added to mission articles. Feel free to create them if they do not exist.

Do not add mission events to character articles if the mission article does not exist, and do not add the entire walkthrough of the mission to a character article in lieu of creating the mission article itself.

Here's a reminder summary of the Saints Row Wiki's policies regarding information about upcoming games, spoilers, and speculation.

This is a follow up to User_blog:452/Upcoming_games

Saying "No Spoilers" on a site which claims to be "The most comprehensive Saints Row information archive" would be ridiculous.

See also: Talk:Missions in Saints Row IV

The Quest/Mission structure of Saints Row IV is a little confusing, because:

    • Quests are not Missions: Missions are Objectives in Quests.
    • Quests can have multiple Objectives, including multiple Missions as part of one Quest.
    • Missions are started by choosing Objectives, subsequent Objectives/Mission may auto-start.
    • Mission names do not usually match Quest names or Objective names.
    • Mission names are shown after completing the Mission, and are then listed in Completed Quests.
    • Side Quests become available after completing certain Objectives/Quests.
    • Side Quests may also have Missions as objectives.

So, let's get this right the first time!

    • When starting a Quest or new Objective:
      • Check and note down the Objectives liste…

    Hey there Saints Row fans!

Wikia is running a fun little competition about fantasy foods and we're looking for users to suggest food items from their favorite video games, movies, or books for the competition. For example: Chicken Bazooms! Once we've got all the candidates sorted, the winners will be voted on by the community to see whose cuisine reigns supreme! You can check it out for yourself here:
